The Lord Mayor's Awards for Urban Design 2009

The Lord Mayor's Awards for Urban Design celebrates and recognises architectural achievements in Nottingham. The awards are given to outstanding projects in the fields of architecture, planning, landscape and urban design that create new exciting, safe and sustainable spaces and buildings.

The awards take place bi-annually, with winners of the 2007 awards including:

  • Gustafson Porter and Nottingham City Council for the re-creation of the Old Market Square
  • Marsh Grochowski Architects and The University of Nottingham for the intriguing, wave-form Kings Meadow Canopy
  • Marsh Grochowski Architects and Alan Simpson MP for the conversion of a derelict warehouse to the Lace Maker's House - an exemplar energy conservation home
  • Nottingham City Council for the restoration of Camellia House at Wollaton Park, and
  • Student, Elizabeth Webster, for her project 'Lost Subterranean Space', which proposes an archaeological museum located within the cave network

Geographical Scope

The awards will be for projects in the City of Nottingham.

Categories

There are five categories of award:

  • New Build
  • Refurbishment
  • Residential / Housing
  • Public Realm and Outdoor Space
  • Student Concept

The same scheme can be eligible for more than one award category. Entries must have been completed between September 2007 - August 2009. Completed phases of larger projects are eligible providing entrants indicate how the phases relate to the overall project.

How to enter

Entries must be received by 7th Septembaer 2009.

There is no entry fee.

Entries can be made by owners, contractors, architects, developers and will need to include the following information:

  • A signed and completed entry form - click here to complete the online version of this entry form| or you can download the document below which includes further information about the awards and entry form
  • A concise description of the scheme, including an explanation of the design approach, implementation issues and funding arrangements. The description must include reference to ease of access for disabled people and the environmental performance of the building
  • An A4 site location plan on which the scheme is clearly marked
  • Images of the scheme, in particular those that show the scheme is relation to its surroundings, different view points, quality and detail of materials and finishes. Photographs of the winning schemes will be used for publicity purposes and submission implies consent is given to use these photographs for the awards and associated publications unless otherwise indicated

Please note that submissions on CD or e-mail must be in pdf format and will be printed in order to display the entries and therefore need to be of a suitable resolution and quality.
