Architectural achievement celebrated in Nottingham

The biennial awards are given to outstanding projects in the fields of architecture, planning, landscape and urban design that create new exciting, safe and sustainable spaces and buildings in the City of Nottingham.

This year award winners are:

New Build Award Winners

• The New Art Exchange, Hyson Green (Harbinder Birch, Hawkins Brown Architects)
• Icon, Office, 14 Oxford Street (Joseph Kemish, Marsh Grochowski Architects)

Public Realm Award Winner

• King Street/Queen Street (Gavin Card, Highway Design, Nottingham City Council)

Overall Award

• The New Art Exchange, Hyson Green (Harbinder Birch, Hawkins Brown Architects)

Student Concept Award Winner

• Oliver Higgins, The Triangle Enchancing Nottingham's Public Realm, Chapel Bar

This year's commendation winners are:

New Build Commendation winners

• New Foundation Unit Mellers Primary School, Radford (Steve Riley, Marsh Grochowski Architects)
• Nottinghamshire Hospice Sunroom Extension Woodborough Road (Chris Dixon Franklin Ellis Architects)

Public Realm Commendation winner

• Innovations Park, Jubilee Campus, University of Nottingham (Make Architects)
• Lace Market Square Piazza (Fiona Heron for Wolfgang & Heron)

Refurbishment 

• HSBC Branch, Clumber Street, (Archial Architects, Leeds)
• The Axis, Upper Parliament Street (Marchini Curran Associates)

All shortlisted entrants were invited to the awards ceremony where the Lord Mayor of Nottingham Councillor Jeannie Packer presented the awards and commendations to the successful projects.

The Lord Mayor of Nottingham, Cllr Jeannie Packer, said:  "Nottingham has so many architectural achievements and these awards aim to showcase the fantastic work that is happening around the city.

"Judges visited all of the shortlisted schemes and looked for well designed projects that are of sustainable design and construction, accessible to different user group, fit for their purpose, and have positive benefits to the surrounding area.

"Awards will be given to projects in each of the categories that provide an excellent contribution to the built environment.  Commendations will also be given to projects that make a valuable contribution to the build environment. "
